A Vision of Students Today and Media Literacy

I’m beginning to learn students views today towards education, and how Media Literacy is so important. Students view most of what they are learning, as non-relevant to their lives and their future. Because social media has grown drastically we learn about what goes on in our world. We learn about what goes on in our schools. We need to make a change in education, where students gain skills for their future. ”Technology can save us”, as the video describes in our lesson, prepare us for the future, and future job opportunities.

Media Literacy on the other hand is important for students today, while technology keeps advancing. It is important for students to keep up with the new technology, and gain new skills as they may use it by means of communication, amongst other skills. A way I would like to communicate with my students would be by learning what they love. (meaning what’s currently popular) I would like to be up to date onto what’s new in technology in order to connect with my future students.

  1. Hi Betty! I feel keeping up with media literacy is important as well. As teachers, we need to stay current with technology to keep our students excited and engaged. This is always changing for good or for bad. My hope is to embrace the good and try to weed out the bad.
